the end, back or bottom of anything. A common vulgarism also used in the phrase 'the arse-end of nowhere', refer-ring to a very remote and/or unpleasant place. 'Arse-end Charlie' is a more robust version of the colloquial 'tail-end Charlie', as applied to a straggler.
